South America - a bit of everything.

Having recently celebrated a defining birthday I set off to spend some of the money that the Government kindly deposits into my bank account and explore a number of Spanish speaking South American countries.

From the experience in the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle to volunteering with an elderly community on Cordoba, Argentina to the Coffee plantations and rich recent history of Colombia and the vivacity of Valparaiso and Santiago in Chile this was a trip of so many contrasts.

Mainly travelling on my own steam I was able to experience some of the culture of all the countries, eat some amazing food (including an attempt to swallow an almost live but and then going into a trance like state with a Anthony Bourdain recommended Ceviche in Colombia.

Experiencing the remote village lives of the people of the Amazon, traversing the barrios of Medellin where drug lords still rule the roost, hanging with the locals in Argentina and learning the secrets of the Chilean food enjoyed by the Mapuche tribes.  It all contributed to an amazing trip.
